Yatate 053

Material: Brass
Length: 16.9 centimeters
Weight: 111 g
Description: Original seller found this in his father's collection in a store house. Could use a good cleaning and polishing. Spots of solder on bottom of ink pot, a nick at the far end of the handle. The wall of the handle near the far end has two "panels" set in of the same metal, apparently from repairs. This expertly done repair work is hard to notice, and adds to the interest of this yatate.

Yatate 063

Material: Copper
Length: 14.9 centimeters
Weight: 78 g
Description: This is the rare inro-gata type with separate ink pot and brush tube. These were popular for a time during the end of the Edo era until the dipper style came back into style. The man who sold this to me said this yatate is from the Edo era. It looks like bronze, and has a double inkpot, separated by a lid so you could probably put a different color ink or water in one. The lidded half has a second door revealing a small compartment apparently for tying a tassle made out of cord. The original tassle is missing. There is a dent in the brush tube, but other than that, this yatate is in great condition.

Yatate 075

Material: Copper
Length: 17.8 centimeters
Weight: 141 g
Description: This yatate has a flat lid made of copper, and I believe the body is copper as well, although the body seems more solid and heavy. Along the top of the handle is a silver inlay design. The lid has some freedom of movement allowing it to shift horizontally, but a cord wrapped around it will keep it snugly in place. There are spots on the bottom side of both tyhe handle and ink post where a square patch of the same metal has been inserted either during the making of this yatate or perhaps a subsequent repair. Barely noticeable and still very solid.
