I dig the illustration of Watson & Holmes' apartment. Any idea what Watson's room upstairs would have looked like?

Admin reply: The stories say very little about Watson's room. I assume there was a bed, and as I recall one story mentions Watson looking out the window into the yard, but that's about it.

Russ,

I can't tell you how helpful your information on the psalms and LOH has been. I was comparing your standard notation for Meinrad Tone 2 and the standard notation from the Meinrad website. Should you have an F# in Tone 2?

Thanks again,
George

Admin reply: Yes, you are right! That entire line used to start on A and there was no need for any sharps. I can't recall when or why I moved it! I'll have to add a sharp or move it back down. Thanks!

Thank you for your carefully reasoned and clearly explained observations. It is perhaps the most helpful website I have yet found on the brushes and inks.

Seeing your recent response answered my question which was is Russ still with us and will he continue to share with those of us thirsty to develop a better understanding of Japanese based tools and techniques.

Admin reply: Thanks for your wonderful message. And yes, I am still alive and kicking (turned 61 this month) and I still make additions to the articles as I discover new things. Not often, but it does happen!

Hi, I enjoyed reading your piece on the yatate.
I have one very similar to the no. 058

Do you know by any chance what the bud motif where the shank meets the ink well is?

It also appears on no. 60, 64, 69, 80, is a lotus bud???

If you know the Japanese kanji or romanji for the motif I would be very grateful.

Best wishes Olivier

Admin reply: Sorry, I never even noticed the motif until you mentioned it. But now I can see it must have been quite common. I have no idea what it would be.

Hello,

I am interested in using the "Tatsumi Turret" sketch in a video game that features Japanese elements. Please email and let me know if this is possible. Credit will be given.

Thanks so much,
Jonathon

Admin reply: Yes, go ahead and use it. Thanks for asking.

Dear Mr. Stutler,

Thank you so much for your writings on the Edo Kirishitan. I just undertook a pilgrimage and walked from the Kobinata Kirishitan-Yashiki through Kodenma-cho to the Mita-Fudanotsuji. I prayed at the Takanawa Catholic Church.

I am a Japanese Roman Catholic; I used to study at the School attached to the Vatican Secret Archives in Rome.
I enjoyed reading many old hand-written documents kept in several Archives in Rome.

Please pray for me,
Sincerely,
Ignatius Shigekazu

Admin reply: That was quite a long walk -- and interesting story! I'm glad you found my web site. I will pray for you. Please pray for me.
Thanks!

Apple has a new app "1650 Psalter" has the whole psalter
Plus tunes you can assign to each psalm. Split leave
If desired. I use this exclusively now for the LOH
And really like the music to sing along. Piano and
A few organ tunes.

Admin reply: Thanks! I'll look into this and add it to the article!
